SEESAWS: The SCFI lost 3.78 points or 0.5 percent from the prior week, dropping to 817.4 points for the week ending July 6, 2018. The index is 6.78 points or 0.8 percent below year-end 2017. This index was 182.6 points or 18.3 percent below the Oct. 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* JUMPS YEAR OVER YEAR: The July 6, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,555 per FEU, $10 or 0.6 percent above the previous week. The rate is up $222 or 16.7 percent year over year, and $32 or 2.1 percent above year-end 2017. This July 6 index was $124 or 8.7 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* RISES FOR SECOND WEEK: The July 6, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,623 per FEU, $99 or 3.9 percent above the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year increase of $316 or 13.7 percent. The July 6 index is up $205 per FEU or 8.5 percent from year-end 2017, and $184 or 7.5 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* FLUCTUATES: The July 6, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $881 per TEU, $4 or 0.5 percent below the prior week as the rate fell $88 or 9.1 percent year over year. The July 6 level was up $17 or 2 percent from year-end 2017, and down $351 or 28.5 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* DIPS AFTER RISE: The July 6, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $903 per TEU, down $10 or 1.1 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is down $3 or 0.3 percent year over year and up $165 or 22.4 percent from year-end 2017.
