SEESAWS: The SCFI lost 31.81 points or 3.9 percent from the prior week, dropping to 793.76 points for the week ending July 20, 2018. The index is 30.42 points or 3.7 percent below year-end 2017. This index was 206.24 points or 20.6 percent below the Oct. 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* JUMPS YEAR OVER YEAR: The July 20, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,616 per FEU, $69 or 4.1 percent below the previous week. The rate is up $390 or 31.8 percent year over year, and $93 or 6.1 percent above year-end 2017. This July 20 index was $185 or 12.9 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* SLIPS AFTER THREE WEEKS OF GAINS: The July 20, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,650 per FEU, $69 or 2.5 percent below the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year increase of $417 or 18.7 percent. The July 20 index is up $232 per FEU or 9.6 percent from year-end 2017, and $211 or 8.7 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* FLUCTUATES: The July 20, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $863 per TEU, $19 or 2.2 percent below the prior week as the rate fell $56 or 6.1 percent year over year. The July 20 level was down $1 or 0.1 percent from year-end 2017, and down $369 or 30 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* FALLS FOR THIRD WEEK: The July 20, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $869 per TEU, down $18 or 2 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is up $17 or 2 percent year over year and up $131 or 17.8 percent from year-end 2017.
