FALLS FOR SECOND WEEK: The SCFI lost 11.62 points or 1.3 percent from the prior week, falling to 909.74 points for the week ending Sept. 14, 2018. The index is 85.56 points or 10.4 percent above year-end 2017. Source: IHS Markit ©2017 IHS Markit Comprehensive SCFI* INDEX JUMPS YEAR OVER YEAR: The Sept. 14, 2018, SCFI comprehensive reading was 909.74 points, which is 135.14 points or 17.4 percent above the same week last year. This index was 90.26 points or 9 percent below the Oc. 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* RISES FOR FIFTH WEEK: The September 14, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $2,349 per FEU, $17 or 0.7 percent above the previous week. The rate is up $763 or 48.1 percent year over year, and $826 or 54.2 percent above year-end 2017. This September 14 index was $918 or 64.2 percent above its October 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* SLIPS AFTER SEVEN WEEKS OF GAINS: The Sept. 14, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $3,512 per FEU, $6 or 0.2 percent below the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year increase of $1,243 or 54.8 percent. The Sept. 14 index is up $1,094 per FEU or 45.2 percent from year-end 2017, and $1,073 or 44 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* DECLINES FOR THIRD WEEK: The Sept. 14, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $821 per TEU, $64 or 7.2 percent below the prior week as the rate rose $52 or 6.8 percent year over year. The Sept.14 level was down $43 or 5 percent from year-end 2017, and down $411 or 33.4 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* FALLS FOR THIRD WEEK: The Sept. 14, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $852 per TEU, down $18 or 2.1 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is up $122 or 16.7 percent year over year and up $114 or 15.4 percent from year-end 2017.
