FALLS FOR FOURTH WEEK: The SCFI lost 19.63 points or 2.2 percent from the prior week, falling to 870.58 points for the week ending September 28, 2018. The index is 46.4 points or 5.6 percent above year-end 2017. This index was 129.42 points or 12.9 percent below the Oct. 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* SLIPS FOR SECOND WEEK: The Sept. 28, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $2,332 per FEU, $11 or 0.5 percent below the previous week. The rate is up $918 or 64.9 percent year over year, and $809 or 53.1 percent above year-end 2017. This Sept. 28 index was $901 or 63 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* FALLS FOR THIRD WEEK: The Sept. 28, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $3,319 per FEU, $183 or 5.2 percent below the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year increase of $1,320 or 66 percent. The Sept. 28 index is up $901 per FEU or 37.3 percent from year-end 2017, and $880 or 36.1 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* DECLINES FOR FIFTH WEEK: The Sept. 28, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $735 per TEU, $31 or 4 percent below the prior week as the rate rose $21 or 2.9 percent year over year. The Sept. 28 level was down $129 or 14.9 percent from year-end 2017, and down $497 or 40.3 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* FALLS FOR FIFTH WEEK: The Sept. 28, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $767 per TEU, down $37 or 4.6 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is up $75 or 10.8 percent year over year and up $29 or 3.9 percent from year-end 2017.
