INCHES DOWN: The SCFI fell 9.79 points or 1.2 percent from the prior week, decreasing to 782.46 points for the week ending April 12, 2019. The index is 128.35 points or 14.1 percent below year-end 2018. This index was 217.54 points or 21.8 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* DECLINES: The April 12, 2019, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,606 per FEU, $17 or 1 percent below the previous week. The rate is up $454 or 39.4 percent year over year, and is $277 or 14.7 percent below year-end 2018. This April 12 index was $175 or 12.2 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* SLIPS: The April 12, 2019, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,638 per FEU, $6 or 0.2 percent below the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year increase of $446 or 20.3 percent. The April 12, 2019, index is down $360 per FEU or 12 percent from year-end 2018, and $199 or 8.2 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* DIPS: The April 12, 2019, North Europe base port average spot rate was $640 per TEU, down $18 or 2.7 percent from the prior week, as the rate rose $55 or 9.4 percent year over year. The April 12, 2019, level is down $356 or 35.7 percent from year- end 2018, and is down $592 or 48.1 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* CREEPS UP: The April 12, 2019, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $715 per TEU, up $4 or 0.6 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is up $115 or 19.2 percent year over year and down $252 or 26.1 percent from year-end 2018.
