SLIPS: The SCFI fell 2.3 points or 0.3 percent from the prior week, decreasing to 723.93 points for the week ending May 24, 2019. The index is 186.88 points or 20.5 percent below year-end 2018. This index was 276.07 points or 27.6 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* FALLS FOR THIRD WEEK: The May 24, 2019, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,294 per FEU, $46 or 3.4 percent below the previous week. The rate is up $11 or 0.9 percent year over year, and is $589 or 31.3 percent below year-end 2018. This May 24 index was $137 or 9.6 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* INCHES DOWN: The May 24, 2019, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,540 per FEU, $57 or 2.2 percent below the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year increase of $269 or 11.8 percent. The May 24, 2019 index is down $458 per FEU or 15.3 percent from year-end 2018, and $101 or 4.1 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* INCHES UP: The May 24, 2019, North Europe base port average spot rate was $743 per TEU, up $20 or 2.8 percent from the prior week, as the rate fell $82 or 9.9 percent year over year. The May 24, 2019, level is down $253 or 25.4 percent from year-end 2018, and is down $489 or 39.7 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* RISES SLIGHTLY: The May 24, 2019, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $710 per TEU, up $14 or 2 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is down $138 or 16.3 percent year over year and down $257 or 26.6 percent from year-end 2018.
