INDEX CLIMBS: The SCFI rose 64 points (6.7 percent) from the prior week, increasing to 1,022 points for the week ending January 3, 2020. The index is up 64 points (6.7 percent) from the end of 2019. The Jan. 3 index reading was 22.72 points (2.3 percent) above the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* JUMPS: The Jan. 3, 2020, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,636 per FEU, $202 (14.1 percent) above the previous week. The rate is down $297 (15 percent) year over year, and up $202 (14 percent) from year-end 2019. The Jan. 3 index reading was $205 (7.1 percent) above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* RISES: The Jan. 3, 2020, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,808 per FEU, $246 (9.6 percent) above the previous week and $311 (9.9 percent) below the same week last year. The Jan. 3 index reading is up $246 per FEU (9.9 percent) from year-end 2019 and up $369 (15.1 percent) from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* CONTINUES TO INCREASE: The Jan. 3, 2020, North Europe base port average spot rate was $1,124 per TEU, up $97 (9.4 percent) from the prior week and up $128 (12.9 percent) year over year. The Jan. 3 index reading is up $97 (9.4 percent) from year-end 2019 and down $108 (8.8 percent) from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* INCHES UP: The Jan. 3, 2020, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $1,185 per TEU, up $13 (1.1 percent) from the prior week and up $188 (18.9 percent) year over year.
