To US WEST COAST base ports* CREEPS DOWN: The Jan. 17, 2020, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,562 per FEU, $19 (1.2 percent) below the previous week. The rate was down $555 (26 percent) year over year, and down $128 (8.9 percent) from year- end 2019. The Jan. 17 index reading was $131 (9.2 percent) above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* INCHES UP: The Jan. 17, 2020, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,943 per FEU, $55 (1.9 percent) above the previous week, but $244 (7.7 percent) below the same week last year. The Jan. 17 index reading is down $55 per FEU (1.8 percent) from year-end 2019, and up $504 (20.7 percent) from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* CONTINUES TO DECLINE: The Jan. 17, 2020, North Europe base port average spot rate was $1,010 per TEU, down $48 (4.5 percent) from the prior week and $40 (4.1 percent) year over year. The Jan. 17 index reading is down $17 (1.7 percent) from year- end 2019 and $222 (18 percent) from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* RISES SLIGHTLY: The Jan. 17, 2020, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $1,180 per TEU, up $1 (0.1 percent) from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is up $202 (20 percent) year over year and $8 (0.7 percent) from year-end 2019.
