INDEX RISES: The SCFI rose 81 points (8 percent) from the prior week, increasing to 1,103 points for the week ending July 31, 2020. The index is up 77 points (8 percent) from the end of 2019. The July 31 index reading was 103 points (10 percent) above the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* SPIKES: The July 31, 2020, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $3,167 per FEU, $463 (17 percent) above the previous week. The rate is up $1,589 (99 percent) year over year, and up $1,733 (120 percent) from year-end 2019. The July 31 index reading was $1,736 (121 percent) above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* MAKES GAINS: The July 31, 2020, East Coast base port average spot rate was $3,495 per FEU, $226 (6.9 percent) above the previous week, and $694 (24 percent) above the same week last year. The July 31 index reading is up $497 per FEU (16 percent) from year-end 2019 and up $1,056 (43 percent) from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* CREEPS UP: The July 31, 2020, North Europe base port average spot rate was $901 per TEU, up $5 (0.6 percent) from the prior week and up $95 (11.8 percent) year over year. The July 31 index reading is down $126 (12 percent) from year-end 2019 and $331 (26 percent) from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* SLIPS: The July 31, 2020, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $935 per TEU, down $2 (0.2 percent) from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is up $85 (10 percent) year over year and down $237 (20 percent) from year- end 2019.
