www.joc.com TEXAS PORTS & LOGISTICS DIRECTORY 7 PORT PROFILES One dry bulk dock One general cargo/dry bulk dock located on south side of turning basin ADDITIONAL PORT INFORMATION The Port of Harlingen is located on the Arroyo Colorado river, 25 miles west of Mile Marker 644 on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, which stretches from the Mexican Border at Brownsville along the entire coast of the Gulf of Mexico and northward along most of the US Eastern Seaboard. The Intracoastal Waterway provides over 1,300 miles of protected waterway and connects to several navigable rivers where shipping traffic can travel to inland ports including the Mississippi, Alabama, Savannah, James, Susquehanna, Delaware, Hudson and Connecticut Rivers connecting the Port of Harlingen with the aforementioned regions. The Port of Harlingen Chanel is maintained to a width of 125 feet and a depth of 12 feet and the port serves as an important link in the comprehensive transportation network of the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The Port of Harlingen imports and distributes 90 percent of the fertilizer consumed by Agricultural Interest in the Rio Grande Valley. The port also imports and delivers 70 percent of the refined petroleum products consumed throughout the Rio Grande Valley. The Port of Harlingen also exports 100 percent of the sugar grown in the entire Rio Grande Valley. The Port of Harlingen is located 10 miles from the International Free Trade Bridge for truck traffic into Mexico and 10 minutes from Highway 77/83. The port has over 150 acres of land available for development. OTHER PORT-AREA SERVICES Rail service is available through the Union Pacific Rail Road which services the United States and Mexico, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) has trackage rights as well. The Port of Harlingen offers potable water, natural gas and electric service. Stevedoring services are available by various independent companies who can quote all inclusive costs for the service required. ADDITIONAL PORT INFORMATION The Port Terminal Railroad Association (PTRA) directly serves PHA's Bulk Materials Handling Plant with regular interchanges with the Burlington Northern- Santa Fe and the Union Pacific. Nearly 150 motor freight lines serve the Port of Houston. The Bulk Plant provides easy access to Interstate 10 and Interstate 45.
