That's $214 or 17.2 percent above the week before and $617 or 73.4 percent above the same week last year. This index was $179 or 14 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* Spot spikes: The May 2, 2014, comprehensive SCFI reading was 1,143.87 points, 75.69 points or 7.1 percent above the week before. This index was 117.02 points or 11.4 percent up year-over-year and 1 43.87 points or 14.4 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base index of 1,000 points. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* Spot slips: The May 2, 2014, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,913 per FEU, $9 or 0.5 percent below the week before and $154 or 7.5 percent down year- over-year. The index was $482 or 33.7 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* Still flat: The May 2, 2014, U.S. East Coast base port average spot rate was $3,328 per FEU, again remaining flat with the week before. This index was $115 or 3.6 percent above a year ago and $889 or 36.4 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* Spot spikes: The May 2, 2014, North Europe base port average spot rate was $1,305 per TEU, $221 or 20.4 percent above the week before and $509 or 63.9 percent up year- over-year. This index was $73 or 5.9 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading.
