That's $42 or 4.5 percent below the week before and $321 or 26.4 percent below the same week last year. This spot rate reflects $386 or 30.2 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009 base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* Index reverses downward: The March 21, 2014, comprehensive SCFI reading was 929.43 points, 15.89 points or 1.7 percent below the week before. This index was 227.20 points or 19.6 percent lower than a year ago and 70.57 points or 7.1 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base index of 1,000 points. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* Index reverses downward: The March 21, 2014, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,865 per FEU, $66 or 3.4 percent below the week before. This index was $239 or 11.4 percent lower than a year ago, but $434 or 30.3 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* Up for second week: The March 21, 2014, U.S. East Coast base port average spot rate was $3,293 per FEU, $6 or 0.2 percent above the week before, $46 or 1.4 percent higher year-over-year and $854 or 35 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* Eleventh week down: The March 21, 2014, North Europe base port average spot rate was $843 per TEU, $45 or 5.1 percent below the week before, $411 or 32.8 percent below a year ago and $389 or 31.6 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading.
