The IPI growth rate compares the latest week's index with the IPI's average over the past year. Worst index level since Nov. 13, 2009: Tumbling into double-digits, the JOC-ECRI industrial price index for the week ending July 10, 2015, was 98.1828, sequentially shedding 2.1639 points while 1.4292 points below the previous double-digit index of March 20, 2015. The JOC-ECRI IPI negative growth rate sequentially plunged 2.5869 percentage points to reach negative 22.8611 percent. The rate is in dollars and based on a full 40-foot containerload, excluding terminal-handling charges in Hong Kong. LAST SEEN IN 2009: The July 13, 2015, average spot market rate from Hong Kong to Los Angeles was $1,218 per FEU, sequentially losing $200 or 14.1 percent and sinking to a level not seen since the early summer of 2009 when the average spot market rate hit rock bottom at $871 per FEU for five consecutive weeks. The $1,218-per-FEU July 13, 2015, average spot rate was $632 or 34.2 percent below the same period last year, and $1,036 or 46 percent below the year-to-date high of $2,253 per FEU reached three consecutive weeks in February. The July 13, 2015, average spot rate was $1,189 or 49.4 percent below the 2014 end-of-year spot rate/2014 high of $2,407 per FEU, and $1,663 or 57.7 percent below the Drewry benchmark record high of $2,880 per FEU of Aug. 6, 2012. While the Americas inched forward just 0.2 percent sequentially in May, the Americas led year-over-year regional sales growth, up 11.4 percent. The SIA has endorsed the global chip forecast by World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) of a 3.4 percent year-over-year gain for both calendar 2015 and 2016 and 3 percent growth in calendar 2017. Both imports and transshipments were up 1 percent year-over-year with North America traffic leading in April. HKIA cargo volume in the first five months of the year totaled 1.7 million tons, 1.4 percent above the same period in 2014. HKIA cargo traffic in calendar 2014 was a record 4.4 million tons, up 6 percent year-over-year.
