Source: Shanghai Shipping Exchange, www1.chineseshipping.com.cn/en/indices/scfi.jsp To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* INCREASE WEAKENS: The Aug. 7, 2015, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $879 per TEU, plunging $240 or 21.4 percent below the previous week, although $605 or 220.8 percent above the record low $274 per TEU of June 19, 2015. This index was $362 or 29.2 percent below year-end, down $734 or 45.5 percent year-over-year, and $400 or 31.3 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. The last time this index was above its base level was Feb. 13, 2015. Comprehensive SCFI* REVERSES COURSE: The Aug. 7, 2015, SCFI comprehensive reading was 749.62, losing 72.77 points or 8.8 percent from the week before. This index was 299.26 points or 28.5 percent below year-end and 422.01 points or 36 percent below a year ago. While the Aug. 7 index was 200.85 points or 36.6 percent above record low 548.77 of July 24, 2015, it was 250.38 points or 25 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. The last time this index was above this base level was Feb. 27, 2015. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* INCREASE WEAKENS: The Aug. 7, 2015, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,542 per FEU, $65 or 4 percent below the week before, $516 or 25.1 percent below year-end and $647 or 29.6 percent below a year ago. This index was $419 or 37.3 percent above record low $1,123 of July 24, 2015, while $111 or 7.8 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* INCREASE WEAKENS: The Aug. 7, 2015, U.S. East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,985 per FEU, $65 or 2.1 percent below the week before, $2,064 or 40.9 percent below its record high of $5,049 of Feb. 13, 2015, $1,513 or 33.6 percent below year-end, and $1,202 or 28.7 percent below a year ago. This index was $546 or 22.4 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* INCREASE WEAKENS: The Aug. 7, 2015, North Europe base port average spot rate was $833 per TEU, sequentially plunging $276 or 24.9 percent, although $628 or 306.3 percent above the record low $205 per TEU of June 19, 2015. This index was $252 or 23.2 percent below year-end, $508 or 37.9 percent below a year ago and $399 or 32.4 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. The last time this index was above its base level was Jan. 23, 2015. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading. INCREASE WEAKENS: The Aug. 7, 2015, SCFI comprehensive reading was 749.62 points, sequentially plunging 72.77 points or 8.8 percent, while losing 422.01 points or 36 percent year-over-year.
