Source: Shanghai Shipping Exchange, www1.chineseshipping.com.cn/en/indices/scfi.jsp To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* 32.1 PERCENT LOSS IN WEEK: The Aug. 21, 2015, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $449 per TEU, plunging $212 or 32.1 percent below the previous week, although $175 or 63.9 percent above the record low $274 per TEU of June 19, 2015. This index was $792 or 63.8 percent below year-end, down $978 or 68.5 percent year-over-year, and $830 or 64.9 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* THREE WEEKS DOWN: The Aug. 21, 2015, SCFI comprehensive reading was 674.54, losing 71.06 points or 9.5 percent from the week before. This index was 374.34 points or 35.7 percent below year-end and down 401.93 points or 37.3 percent year-over-year. While the Aug. 21 index was 125.77 points or 22.9 percent above the record low 548.77 of July 24, 2015, it was 325.46 points or 32.5 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* 7.8 PERCENT LOSS IN WEEK: The Aug. 21, 2015, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,585 per FEU, $134 or 7.8 percent below the week before, $473 or 23 percent below year-end and $459 or 22.5 percent below a year ago. This index was $462 or 41.1 percent above the record low $1,123 of July 24, 2015, while $154 or 10.8 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* 9.9 PERCENT LOSS IN WEEK: The Aug. 21, 2015, U.S. East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,846 per FEU, $313 or 9.9 percent below the week before, $2,203 or 43.6 percent below its record high of $5,049 of Feb. 13, 2015, $1,652 or 36.7 percent below year-end, and $1,315 or 31.6 percent below a year ago. This index was $407 or 16.7 percent above the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* 26.7 PERCENT LOSS IN WEEK: The Aug. 21, 2015, North Europe base port average spot rate was $469 per TEU, sequentially plunging $171 or 26.7 percent, although $264 or 128.8 percent above the record low $205 per TEU of June 19, 2015. This index was $616 or 56.8 percent below year-end, $637or 57.6 percent below a year ago and $763 or 61.9 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading. 9.5 PERCENT LOSS IN WEEK: The Aug. 21, 2015, SCFI comprehensive reading was 674.54 points, sequentially plunging 71.06 points or 9.5 percent, while losing 401.93 points or 37.3 percent year-over-year.
