Rates are expressed in U.S. dollar per kilogram and include three components: the base rate, the fuel surcharge and the security surcharge. They exclude door delivery costs. The December 2015 Drewry East-West Air Freight Price Index was 91.2 points, tumbing 8 points below the November index and 16.8 points below the December 2014 index. The December average air freight rate was $2.96 per kilogram, plunging 26 cents below November and 54 cents year-over-year. While Drewry anticipates the January roll-up to the early Chinese New Year will press freight rates higher, with rates thereafter to decline until retail inventory peak season ramps up.
