While this index was $259 or 132.8 percent more than its Oct. 16, 2015, record low $195 per TEU, it was $825 or 64.5 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* YEAR-OVER-YEAR PLUNGE: The Feb. 5, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 566.92 points, 24.59 points or 4.2 percent below the week before and 270.04 points or 32.3 percent below year-end. This index was 520.40 points or 47.9 percent below a year ago, and 433.08 points or 43.3 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. The last time this index was above its base level was Feb. 27, 2015. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* YEAR-OVER-YEAR PLUNGE: The Feb. 5, 2016, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,321 per FEU, $67 or 4.8 percent below the week before, $197 or 13 percent below year-end and $921 or 41.1 percent below a year ago. This index was $555 or 72.5 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $766 per FEU, but $110 or 7.7 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* YEAR-OVER-YEAR PLUNGE: The Feb. 5, 2016, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,341 per FEU, $125 or 5.1 percent below the week before, $214 or 8.4 percent below year-end and down $2,637 or 53 percent year-over-year. This index was $893 or 61.7 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $1,448 per FEU, while $98 or 4 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* FIFTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL: The Feb. 5, 2016, North Europe base port average spot rate was $431 per TEU, $38 or 8.1 percent below the week before, $801 or 65 percent below year-end results and $626 or 59.2 percent below a year ago. While this index was $226 or 110.2 percent above its June 19, 2015, record low of $205 per TEU, it was $801 or 65 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading. FIFTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL IN RUN-UP TO CHINESE NEW YEAR: The Feb. 5, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 566.92 points, sequentially losing 4.2 percent or 24.59 points while 47.9 percent or 520.40 points below a year ago.
