While this index was $149 or 76.4 percent more than its Oct. 16, 2015, record low $195 per TEU, it was $935 or 73.1 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009,base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* PLUNGES TO 0.5 PERCENT ABOVE RECORD LOW: The Feb. 19, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 468.70 points, 80.22 points or 14.2 percent below the week before Chinese New Year and 350.26 points or 41.8 percent below year-end. This index was 601.58 points or 55.3 percent below a year ago, and 513.30 points or 51.3 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. The last time this index was above its base level was Feb. 27, 2015. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* YEAR-OVER-YEAR PLUNGE: The Feb. 19, 2016, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,070 per FEU, $251 or 19 percent below the week before Chinese New Year, $448 or 29.5 percent below year-end and $1,195 or 52.8 percent below a year ago. This index was $304 or 39.7 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $766 per FEU, but $361 or 25.2 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* YEAR-OVER-YEAR PLUNGE: The Feb. 19, 2016, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,074 per FEU, $267 or 11.4 percent below the week before Chinese New Year, $481 or 18.8 percent below year-end and $2,975 or 58.9 percent below a year ago. This index was $626 or 43.2 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $1,448 per FEU, while $365 or 15 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* SIXTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL: The Feb. 19, 2016, North Europe base port average spot rate was $332 per TEU, $99 or 23 percent below the week before Chinese New Year, $900 or 73.1 percent below year-end results and $671 or 66.9 percent below a year ago. While this index was $127 or 62 percent above its June 19, 2015, record low of $205 per TEU, it was $900 or 73.1 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading. SIXTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL: The Feb. 19, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 486.70 points, losing 14.2 percent or 80.22 points from the week before Chinese New Year while 55.3 percent or 601.58 points below a year ago.
