While this index was $41 or 21 percent more than its Oct. 16, 2015, record low $195 per TEU, it was $1,043 or 81.5 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* EIGHTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL, PLUNGES TO RECORD LOW: The March 4, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 433.46 points, 34.08 points or 7.3 percent below the previous record low of the week before, and 403.50 points or 48.2 percent below year-end. This index was 526.83 points or 54.9 percent down year-over-year, and 566.54 points or 56.7 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009 base of 1,000 points. The last time this index was above its base level was Feb. 27, 2015. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* YEAR-OVER-YEAR PLUNGE: The March 4, 2016, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $884 per FEU, $121 or 12 percent below the week before, $634 or 41.8 percent below year-end and $1,037 or 54 percent below a year ago. This index was $118 or 15.4 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $766 per FEU, but $547 or 38.2 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* YEAR-OVER-YEAR PLUNGE: The March 4, 2016, East Coast base port average spot rate was $1,804 per FEU, $179 or 9 percent below the week before, $751 or 29.4 percent below year-end and $2,936 or 61.9 percent below a year ago. This index was $356 or 24.6 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $1,448 per FEU, while $635 or 26 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* EIGHTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL: The March 4, 2016, North Europe base port average spot rate was $231 per TEU, $26 or 10.1 percent below the week before, $1,001 or 81.3 percent below year- end and $585 or 71.7 percent below a year ago. While this index was $26 or 12.7 percent above its June 19, 2015, record low of $205 per TEU, it was $1,001 or 81.3 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading. PLUNGES TO RECORD LOW: The March 4, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 433.46 points, losing 7.3 percent or 34.08 points from the week before while 54.9 percent or 526.83 points below a year ago.
