This index was $1,084 or 84.8 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* 10TH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL, PLUNGES TO RECORD LOW: The March 18, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 400.43 points, 3.75 points or 0.9 percent below the previous record low of the week before, and 436.53 points or 52.2 percent below year-end. This index was 420.96 points or 51.2 percent below a year ago, and 599.57 points or 60 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. The last time this index was above its base level was Feb. 27, 2015. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* SIXTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL, PLUNGES TO RECORD LOW: The March 18, 2016, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was record low $761 per FEU, $49 or 6 percent below the week before, $757 or 49.9 percent below year-end and $987 or 56.5 percent below a year ago. This index was $5 below its previous $766 low of Dec. 25, 2015, and $670 or 46.8 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* SIXTH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL: The March 18, 2016, East Coast base port average spot rate was $1,659 per FEU, $51 or 3 percent below the week before, $896 or 35.1 percent below year-end and down $2,696 or 61.9 percent year-over- year. This index was $211 or 14.6 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $1,448 per FEU, while $780 or 32 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* 10TH STRAIGHT WEEK IN FREEFALL: The March 18, 2016, North Europe base port average spot rate was $205 per TEU, matching the record low of June 19, 2015, $6 or 2.8 percent below the week before. and $415 or 66.9 percent below a year ago. This index was $1,027 or 83.4 percent below both its year-end results and its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading.
