Source: Shanghai Shipping Exchange, www1.chineseshipping.com.cn/en/indices/scfinew.jsp To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* JUMPED $547 IN WEEK: The April 29, 2016, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $944 per TEU, $547 or 137.8 percent above the week before, while spiking $749, or almost quadrupling the record low $195 per TEU of Oct. 16, 2015, matched March 18, 2016. This index was $260 or 38 percent above a year ago, although $313 or 24.9 percent below year-end 2015, and $335 or 26.2 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* 39.6 PERCENT BELOW BASE INDEX: The April 29, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 603.64 points, 145.94 points or 31.9 percent above the week before and 203.21 points or 50.7 percent above its record low of March 18. This index was 157.38 points or 20.7 percent below a year ago, 233.32 or 27.9 percent below year-end 2015, and 396.36 points or 39.6 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. The last time this index was above its base level was Feb. 27, 2015. To U.S. WEST COAST base ports* $132 ABOVE INDEX RECORD LOW: The April 29, 2016, U.S. West Coast base port average spot rate was $857 per FEU, $132 or 18.2 percent above the record low of the week before, $661 or 43.5 percent below year-end 2015, and $926 or 51.9 percent below a year ago. This index was $574 or 40.1 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To U.S. EAST COAST base ports* DOWN 53 PERCENT YEAR-OVER-YEAR: The April 29, 2016, East Coast base port average spot rate was $1,694 per FEU, $95 or 5.9 percent above the week before, although $861 or 33.7 percent below year-end 2015, and down $1,911 or 53 percent year-over-year. This index was $246 or 17 percent above its Dec. 25 record low of $1,448 per FEU, while $745 or 30.5 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* $527 ABOVE RECORD LOW: The April 29, 2016, North Europe base port average spot rate was $732 per TEU, $461 or 170.1 percent above the week before, and $527 or 257.1 percent above its record-low $205 per TEU of June 19, 2015, which was matched on March 18, 2016. This index was $389 or 113.4 percent above a year ago, although $500 or 40.6 percent below both its year-end 2015 results and its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading. JUMPED 50.7 PERCENT IN FIVE WEEKS: The April 29, 2016, SCFI comprehensive reading was 603.64 points, 145.94 points or 31.9 percent above the week before while 203.21 points or 50.7 percent above its record low of March 18.
