The IPI growth rate compares the latest week's index with the IPI's average over the past year. Two weeks in sequential decline: The JOC-ECRI industrial price index for the week ending Aug. 5, 2016, sequentially declined 0.4643 point in its 57th week in double-digit index to 93.8784 points. While this level was 0.6477 points below the year-to-date record high 94.5261 points of July 22, it was 15.4509 points above the 2016 low of 78.4275 for the week ending Jan. 22, which was the worst weekly index since the week ending May 29, 2009. The rate is in dollars and based on a full 40-foot containerload, excluding terminal-handling charges in Hong Kong. $619 ABOVE RECORD LOW: The Aug. 8, 2016, average spot market rate from Hong Kong to Los Angeles was $1,243 per FEU, $619 or almost double the $623 per FEU benchmark record low of April 25. SHEDS $175 FROM YEAR-TO-DATE HIGH: The Aug. 8, 2016, average spot rate remained sequentially stable, $375 or 23.2 percent below the same period last year, and $175 or 12.3 percent below the 2016 record high $1,418 held for the first three weeks in January. The Aug. 8 rate was $1,638 or 56.9 percent below the Drewry benchmark record high of $2,880 per FEU of Aug. 6, 2012. Rates are expressed in dollar per kilogram and include three components: the base rate, the fuel surcharge and the security surcharge. They exclude door delivery costs. BEST MONTHLY INDEX IN SIX MONTHS: The June 2016 Drewry East-West Air Freight Price Index was 84.8 points, 4.3 points above May and 5.6 points above the record low February 79.2 point index.
