The IPI growth rate compares the latest week's index with the IPI's average over the past year. EIGHTH WEEK IN TRIPLE-DIGIT INDEX: The JOC-ECRI Industrial Price Index for the week ending Jan. 20, 2017, was a year-to-date record 106.8120 points, rising 1.5976 points sequentially. This level reflects 2.9797 points above the calendar 2016 high of 103.8323 for the week ending Dec. 16, while 28.3844 points above the calendar 2016 low of 78.4275 for the week ending Jan. 22, 2016. SPIKES $1,043 or 79.2 PECENT YEAR-OVER-YEAR: The Jan. 23, 2017, average spot market rate from Hong Kong to Los Angeles remained sequentially stable at $2,361 per FEU. This year-to-date high reflects a $1,043 or 79.2 percent spike from the $1,318 per FEU level of a year ago. The Jan. 23, 2017, average spot rate was $318 or 15.6 percent above the calendar 2016 high of $2,043 per FEU of Oct. 31, 2016, and $520 or 18 percent below the Drewry benchmark record high of $2,880 per FEU of Aug. 6, 2012. Source: Drewry's Container Freight Rate Insight, www.drewry.co.uk n SEVENTH STRAIGHT MONTH IN SEQUENTIAL SALES GROWTH: The Semiconductor Industry Association's monthly global sales report for November 2016 revealed the highest sales month year-to-date 2016 at $31 billion, sequentially rising 2 percent, and catapulting 7.4 percent year-over-year in its fourth, and consecutive, positive year-over-year monthly growth since June 2015. November 2016 sales in the Americas sequentially gained 3.3 percent, and were up 3.2 percent year-over-year. In contrast, China sequentially gained 2.7 percent in Novem- ber 2016 sales, and spiked 15.8 percent year-over-year.
