The March 17 level tumbled $441 or 34.5 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,279 per TEU. Comprehensive SCFI* SLIDE SLIPS INTO NINTH WEEK: The March 17, 2017, SCFI comprehensive reading was 761.15 points, 14.12 points or 1.9 percent below the previous week as the rate rose 90.1 percent year-over-year. This index was 238.85 points or 23.9 percent below the Oct. 16, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* JUMPS 87.1 PERCENT YEAR-OVER-YEAR: In its ninth consecutive week in decline, the March 17 US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,424 per FEU, $86 or 6.4 percent below the previous week and $499 or 25.9 percent below year-end 2016. This March 17 index was $7 or 0.5 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* SPIKES 74 PERCENT YEAR-OVER-YEAR: The March 17 East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,887 per FEU, $166 or 6.1 percent below the previous week, and a year-over-year jump of $1,227 or 74 percent. The March 17 level is $448 or 18.4 percent above its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* SPIKES 319 PERCENT YEAR-OVER-YEAR: After falling the previous week, the March 17 North Europe base port average spot rate was $859 per TEU, $40 or 4.9 percent below the prior week, but jumped $654, more than tripling, year-over-year. The March 17 level was down $373 or 30.3 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. SCFI - SHANGHAI CONTAINERIZED FREIGHT INDEX n Shanghai export average spot rates for the following four trade lanes are among the 15 component trade lanes in the weekly SCFI — Shanghai Containerized Freight Index produced by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and weigh 57.5 percent of the SCFI comprehensive reading. YEAR-OVER-YEAR GAINS WIDEN: The March 17, 2017, SCFI comprehensive reading was up 90.1 percent year-over-year to 761.15 points, but down 14.12 points or 1.9 percent from the prior week, and 190.51 points or 20 percent below year-end 2016.
