INDEX INCHES UP: The SCFI gained 5.57 points or 0.9 percent from the prior week, inching up to 659.74 points for the week ending April 13, 2018. The index is 164.44 points or 20 percent below year-end 2017. This index was 340.26 points or 34 percent below the Oct. 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* RISES AGAIN: The April 13, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,152 per FEU, $24 or 2.1 percent above the previous week. The rate is down 15.1 percent or $205 year over year, while $371 or 24.4 percent below year-end 2017. This April 13 index was $279 or 19.5 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* INCREASES FOR THIRD WEEK: The April 13, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,192 per FEU, $42 or 2 percent above the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year drop of $168 or 7.1 percent. The April 13 index is down $226 per FEU or 9.3 percent from year-end 2017, and $247 or 10.1 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* FALLS FOR NINTH WEEK: The April 13, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $585 per TEU, $32 or 5.2 percent below the prior week as the rate fell $281 or 32.4 percent year over year. The April 13 level was down $279 or 32.2 percent from year-end 2017, and down $647 or 52.5 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* SEESAWS: The April 13, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $600 per TEU, down $16 or 2.6 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is down $227 year over year or 27.4 percent and is down $138 or 18.7 percent from year-end 2017.
