INDEX LEAPS: The SCFI gained 86.09 points or 12.8 percent from the prior week, leaping up to 760.67 points for the week ending April 27, 2018. The index is 63.51 points or 7.7 percent below year-end 2017. This index was 239.33 points or 23.9 percent below the Oct. 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* SPIKES: The April 27, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,403 per FEU, $251 or 21.8 percent above the previous week. The rate is down 12.6 percent or $203 year over year, while $120 or 7.9 percent below year-end 2017. This April 27 index was $28 or 2 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* RISES FOR FIFTH WEEK: The April 27, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,371 per FEU, $178 or 8.1 percent above the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year drop of $255 or 9.7 percent. The April 27 index is down $47 per FEU or 1.9 percent from year-end 2017, and $68 or 2.8 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* RISES AFTER 10-WEEK SLIDE: The April 27, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $774 per TEU, $190 or 32.5 percent below the prior week as the rate fell $247 or 24.2 percent year over year. The April 27 level was down $90 or 10.4 percent from year-end 2017, and down $458 or 37.2 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* INCREASES FOR SECOND WEEK: The April 27, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $694 per TEU, up $93 or 15.5 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is down $317 year over year or 31.4 percent and is down $44 or 6 percent from year-end 2017.
