CONTINUES TO MAKE GAINS: The SCFI gained 1.95 points or 0.3 percent from the prior week, inching up to 778.83 points for the week ending May 11, 2018. The index is 45.35 points or 5.5 percent below year-end 2017. This index was 221.17 points or 22.1 percent below the October 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* DIPS AFTER RALLY: The May 11, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,382 per FEU, $86 or 5.9 percent below the previous week a¢er rising for two weeks. The rate is down 3.5 percent or $50 year over year, while $141 or 9.3 percent below year-end 2017. This May 11 index was $141 or 9.3 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* SLIPS A BIT: The May 11, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,364 per FEU, $69 or 2.8 percent below the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year drop of $68 or 2.8 percent. The May 11 index is down $54 per FEU or 2.2 percent from year-end 2017, and $75 or 3.1 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* RISES FOR THIRD WEEK: The May 11, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $811 per TEU, $23 or 2.9 percent above the prior week as the rate fell $150 or 15.6 percent year over year. The May 11 level was down $53 or 6.1 percent from year-end 2017, and down $421 or 34.2 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* INCREASES FOR FOURTH WEEK: The May 11, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $783 per TEU, up $27 or 3.6 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is down $166 year over year or 17.5 percent but is up $45 or 6.1 percent from year-end 2017.
