DIPS AFTER GAINS: The SCFI lost 23.05 points or 2.8 percent from the prior week, dropping to 806.04 points for the week ending June 8, 2018, aer rising the previous two weeks. The index is 18.14 points or 2.2 percent below year-end 2017. This index was 193.96 points or 19.4 percent below the Oct. 28, 2009, base of 1,000 points. To US WEST COAST base ports* SEESAWS: The June 8, 2018, US West Coast base port average spot rate was $1,358 per FEU, $87 or 6 percent below the previous week. The rate is up $81 or 6.3 percent year over year, while $165 or 10.8 percent below year-end 2017. This June 8 index was $73 or 5.1 percent below its October 16, 2009, base rate of $1,431 per FEU. To US EAST COAST base ports* FLUCTUATES: The June 8, 2018, East Coast base port average spot rate was $2,354 per FEU, $109 or 4.4 percent below the previous week. This week's rate is a year-over-year increase of $121 or 5.4 percent. The June 8 index is down $64 per FEU or 2.6 percent from year-end 2017, and $85 or 3.5 percent below its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $2,439 per FEU. To NORTH EUROPE base ports* DIPS: The June 8, 2018, North Europe base port average spot rate was $870 per TEU, $6 or 0.7 percent below the prior week as the rate fell $65 or 7 percent year over year. The June 8 level was up $6 or 0.7 percent from year-end 2017, and down $362 or 29.4 percent from its Oct. 16, 2009, base rate of $1,232 per TEU. To MEDITERRANEAN base ports* INCREASES FOR EIGHTH WEEK: The June 8, 2018, Mediterranean base port average spot rate was $904 per TEU, up $9 or 1 percent from the prior week. The Mediterranean rate is flat year over year but is up $166 or 22.5 percent from year-end 2017.
